Newcastle Greyhounds Live

Newcastle Info

Nestled in Byker on the Fossway in Newcastle upon Tyne, Newcastle Greyhound Stadium (formerly known as Brough Park) is one of Britain’s longstanding greyhound tracks. Its story stretches back almost a century, and though the sport has evolved, Newcastle has managed to retain a solid place in the UK racing calendar.

The racetrack was opened in 1928. The very first meeting at Brough Park was held on 23 June 1928, where a greyhound named Marvin won the inaugural race at odds of 3-1. Former name: Brough Park was the traditional name; later rebranded as Newcastle Stadium under the ownership of Arena Racing Company. It is located about two miles east of Newcastle city centre, in Byker. The stadium is owned (as of now) by the Arena Racing Company. Track circumference is 415 metres and races are held multiple times per week — Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

The stadium was renovated in 2003, refreshing many facilities. It has formerly hosted speedway as well, up until mid-2022. The capacity has varied, but Brough Park has been known historically for having a modest spectator capacity compared to larger southern tracks, reflecting its regional focus. The Laurels, a Classic competition in greyhound racing, was very briefly held at Newcastle after ARC acquired the track. The move underscored the track’s standing, even though the Laurels later moved away.
